Getting to Know You

We made it to Sikeston about 5:00 last night. Got in, got settled and a had good night sleep. We started at 10:00 and right off the bat her therapist noticed that Lilly had some muscle tightness in key places that may be preventing her from standing straight up when she walks and plays. She will be discussing with us some ways to stretch those muscles and lengthen them so she can better use them. She even discussed using her stander (equipment) to help keep her in proper alignment and using all her muscles while she is standing. Being our lazy Lilly, she has been using as little as possible while standing. She has many tricks to getting out of work!!

The next 3 weeks we will be focusing on transitions. That’s getting up from sitting onto her hands and knees, then up to her knees and then up to standing. And if we start crawling during all this that would be FANTASTIC! We will be doing some walking but it is really important to me that Lilly have independent mobility. Walking in her walker isn’t going to benefit her if she has to wait for someone to put her in it. Of course all these exercises will make her stronger and will also help her in walking. And we will be using the therasuit when working on all this. Along with vital stim on her glutes and abdominals. I will tell you more about that after we start using it.

So the next couple days will be feeling Lilly out…seeing how she works best and getting a game plan. I will post videos and pics when I can. I stay very, very busy during therapy too! Helping to motivate her. That is more work than you can imagine!

I had already wrote this update when I caught this on camera. Today they worked on positioning the suit so that Lilly sat with a correct curve in her spine. Sat tall not slumped over. After dinner I sat her in the floor to play and she immediately sat correctly. Held it for 6-7 min! That suit is amazing!!
